These nuts are made up of about 22–24% Chromium, 12–15% Nickel, up to 2% Manganese, 1% Silicon, and a controlled Carbon level—0.08% in 309 and 0.03% in 309S, along with trace amounts of Phosphorus and Sulfur. The high alloy content provides exceptional oxidation resistance at temperatures reaching around 1000°C. They boast excellent tensile strength of about 620 MPa and yield strength close to 310 MPa, along with impressive toughness and creep resistance. The lower carbon content in 309S enhances weldability and minimizes carbide precipitation during welding.
