ASTM A193 B8 Class 3 bolts are manufactured using Grade 304 stainless steel that has been strain-hardened to increase its strength and corrosion resistance. Typically they contain 18-20% chromium, 8-12% nickel, and controlled levels of carbon to improve their durability and stability through proper metallurgical processes. The mechanical properties of Class 3 bolts have a higher yield strength and higher tensile strength compared to both Class 1 and Class 2 bolts because of the additional cold-working they receive during production, resulting in a tensile strength of approximately 125 KSI (kilo-pounds per square inch). This unique combination of high strength and resistance to heat, chemicals, and oxidation allow these fasteners to perform well in high-demand industrial applications.
