ASTM A193 B8 Class 3 fasteners are made from AISI 304 stainless steel that has been enhanced through the addition of an extra strain hardening process to offer higher mechanical properties than Class 1 or Class 2 fasteners. In terms of chemical composition, these fasteners typically contain 18% to 20% chromium and 8% to 10.5% nickel, which provides excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation (the breakdown of a material into smaller particles). B8 Class 3 fasteners have extremely high tensile strength and yield strength, along with increased hardness and outstanding resistance to fatigue, allowing them to function in severe environments (i.e., those with heat and/or weight). The stability of the B8 Class 3 fasteners at these high temperatures and weights allows them to provide reliable service for a longer period of time, as well as a safer method of fastening during critical manufacturing processes within an industrial setting.
