Stud Bolts (Duplex Steel 2205) are composed of approximately 22–23% chromium; 4.5–6.5% nickel; 3.0–3.5% molybdenum, and 0.14–0.20% nitrogen as well as small amounts of manganese, silicon, and copper. The microstructure of Duplex Steel 2205, consisting of both austenitic and ferritic phases generates exceptional resistance against pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in environments that are rich in chloride contents. With respect to mechanical properties, Duplex Steel 2205 will have a typical tensile strength of 700–850 MPa and a typical yield strength of 450–550 MPa; in addition, duplex steel will exhibit excellent toughness, fatigue resistance, and stability when exposed to high-pressure and temperature conditions and therefore, it is considered to be an ideal material for high performance marine, industrial, and chemical service applications.
